A file becomes a useful handoff when the recipient knows its purpose and how to interpret it. An export called model-final.obj is not enough. Include a compact readme and supporting views that connect the geometry to the decision you want reviewed.
State purpose and source
Identify the project, model version, source drawing revisions and date of the package. Explain whether it is intended for layout discussion, a visual check or another bounded task. Avoid naming a concept final when important design information remains unresolved. The receiver should know which earlier package this one replaces and whether any accompanying schedules were recalculated from the same geometry.
Make units and scope explicit
List the units, origin convention and modeled elements. State the assumptions about heights and floor arrangement, along with any simplified boundaries. Include a dimensioned reference or a known test span the recipient can inspect after import. File formats differ in the information they carry, so do not assume that quantities, comments or room names will appear in every receiving application exactly as they do in the authoring tool.
Include a view and an action request
A plan or screenshot helps the recipient recognize the intended arrangement before inspecting the model. Pair it with a short request: confirm the room relationships, check a particular dimension or compare two options against the brief. List unresolved questions rather than asking for a vague review of everything. The requested action should be appropriate to the recipient's responsibility and the information actually present in the package.
Check the backup separately
A handoff and a backup serve different purposes. TranslateDesign exports room-envelope OBJ, plan SVG, quantity CSV and project JSON. Its JSON import restores project details and room geometry, not original drawing blobs or review history. Download originals separately and keep any important review record through an agreed process. Verify files can be opened before clearing local browser data or relying on the package as your only copy.
- Identify versions and the package's purpose.
- Include units, assumptions and a known dimension.
- Ask for a specific review action.
- Verify backup coverage rather than assuming it.
