Your first design,
step by step.
TranslateDesign currently turns your measured room dimensions into an editable concept study. Keep drawings beside it, explore the rooms, check finish quantities and export the result. No sign-in is needed.
Guide reviewed
Two spaces, for two kinds of work.
Manage the studio.
Use the dashboard, project list, drawing register, Library, Team, Roles, Activity, Billing and Settings. Create a project or choose one you want to work on.
Focus on one project.
Opening a project enters Design mode. Its sidebar contains the brief, source drawings, room model, 3D study, quantities, review and exports, plus shortcuts to add rooms, drawings and review cards. The project selector switches between projects in the same workspace.
Use the Workspace mode / Design mode switch above the project to change navigation without closing the project. Back to workspace returns to Projects. Room edits stay saved locally in either mode.
In Model or Visuals, choose Floor plan, 3D view or Split view. Zoom enlarges the drawing; scroll inside it to pan. Fit view resets zoom to 100%. Use Rotate around for the 360-degree horizontal turn and Tilt up / down to look from above or below. Reset 3D view restores the starting camera and zoom. These controls change your view, not your room measurements.
Start with something you can see.
The sample residence has 4 rooms and 832 sq ft of floor area before edits. Switch between its plan and 3D view here, then open the sample to try the controls.
A five-minute first run
- Choose Try the sample and move the Rotate around and Tilt up / down sliders.
- Find Living room in the room list, choose Edit, change width from 20 to 19 feet and choose Save room. The plan changes without overlapping the next room.
- Open Quantities to see the updated areas and finish estimate.
- Open Review and move a sample card to Complete.
- Open Exports and download Project geometry JSON as a backup.
Already changed the sample? Use Library to create a fresh Residential concept starter. Your changes are saved locally as you work.
From your drawing to a room study.
1 Open a sample or create your project
Start with the sample to see a finished room study. For your own design, choose New project, enter a name and location, and choose Residential, Commercial or Renovation.
- The dashboard shows projects in your selected workspace. Opening a project enters Design mode with its own tools sidebar.
- Use Workspace mode to show general navigation while keeping the project open, or Back to workspace to return to Projects.
- Use Overview to save the brief and set Draft, In review or Ready.
- Use Settings to create a personal or business workspace. Switch workspaces from the navigation.
2 Keep your drawing beside the project
Open your project’s Drawings tab and choose Add a drawing. Attach a PDF, PNG or JPEG under 20 MB, then use Inspect a drawing to preview it.
- Attaching a file does not automatically create rooms. You enter the measurements in Model.
- Drawing files stay in this browser and are not sent to an AI provider.
- Download original retrieves a local attachment. Keep a separate copy of the original file.
3 Build the rooms from your measurements
In Model, enter each room’s name, size, position and floor, then choose Add room. The floor plan and 3D room envelopes update from these values.
- Width, depth and height are in feet. X and Y set the room’s position on the plan.
- Floor 0 is ground level; the floor selector supports levels 0–9. Rooms on the same floor cannot overlap.
- Use Add room in the tools sidebar to jump to the room form; Edit and Remove remain beside each room.
- Choose Floor plan, 3D view or Split view. Choose a floor and zoom level; Fit view resets zoom. Scroll a zoomed canvas to pan.
- Rotate around turns the view through 360 degrees. Tilt up / down lets you look from above or below. Reset 3D view restores the initial rotation, tilt and zoom. These controls do not change room dimensions.
- Visuals shows the same room study. It does not generate a photorealistic render.
4 Check areas and try an estimating rate
Quantities adds up your room dimensions. Enter your floor finish rate, wall finish rate and contingency percentage, then choose Update estimate.
- Rates are in USD per square foot. The total is an illustrative finish budget, not total construction cost.
- Wall finishes count each room-facing surface. Door and window openings are not deducted.
- Changing a room changes its measured quantities. Confirm your dimensions before using the results.
5 Organize the next decisions
In Review, add a task and optional notes. Use its Move to selector to put it in To do, In progress or Complete. Add review notes underneath the board.
- These cards and notes are saved locally. Another person cannot see them from a different browser.
- Team and Roles let you plan members, roles and licenses. They do not send invitations or grant shared access.
- Activity lists changes made in the selected browser-local workspace.
6 Export your study and keep a backup
Use Exports to download a floor plan SVG, a 3D OBJ, room quantities CSV or project geometry JSON. Print / save PDF opens your browser’s print dialog.
- SVG exports the ground-floor plan in this version; OBJ contains the room boxes on all floors in feet.
- JSON backs up the brief and room geometry. Import project JSON on Projects restores these into a new project in the selected workspace.
- The import does not restore attached drawings or review history. Back these up separately.
- These are concept outputs requiring professional checking before construction.
Adding your first room from scratch
On a new project’s Model page, enter Room name: Living room, X: 0, Y: 0, Width: 12, Depth: 10, Height: 9 and Floor: 0. Choose Add room. This creates a 120 sq ft room.
For a second room beside it, set X to 12 and Y to 0. X moves a room across the plan; Y moves it down the plan. If rooms overlap, move the new room or reduce its size. Use your drawing’s measured dimensions for your real project.
What you can use today.
Rooms, estimates and exports
Manual room editing, plan and 3D envelope views, gross quantities, finish estimates and downloadable files work in this browser.
Drawings and workspace planning
Local attachments, personal/business workspaces, review cards, notes and member planning are available without signing in.
AI and rendered images
Automatic drawing interpretation, generated layouts and photorealistic rendering are not connected. Uploading a drawing does not start AI processing.
Shared accounts and payments
Authenticated cloud storage, live team synchronization and Stripe checkout are not connected. Billing is a pricing preview and does not charge you.
Keep your work safe and know what to expect.
Where is my work saved?
Projects and drawings stay in the browser you used to create them. A different browser, device or private browsing session will not have the same workspace. Clearing site data can delete your work. Export geometry JSON regularly and keep original drawings and important review notes separately.
What technology creates the 3D room view?
React and TypeScript in Next.js update the interface. Local projection math turns your room dimensions into box faces, rotates the viewing angle in two directions, then draws the visible faces as SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). The browser draws these vector shapes with an orthographic projection, so distant rooms do not shrink as they would in a perspective camera.
This is a local concept viewer without Three.js, WebGL or AI rendering. It shows room envelopes, not a detailed BIM model. Camera angles do not change quantities or the room geometry in OBJ exports. Open How this 3D view works below the model for the explanation while designing.
Why is my uploaded drawing not becoming a model?
The current version uses manual modeling. Attach the drawing as a reference, then enter measured rooms in Model. AI extraction is not connected yet.
Can I invite a colleague or pay for a plan?
Team entries and license selections are local planning only. No invitation is sent, no account access is granted and no payment is taken. Billing shows the proposed prices.
Why is the estimate different from a contractor’s quote?
It covers illustrative floor and wall finishes using the rates you enter, with a contingency percentage. It does not calculate the whole building cost or deduct openings. Review the scope and dimensions with a qualified professional.
Why can’t I find a project?
Choose the workspace that contains it from navigation. If you changed browser or device, import a saved geometry JSON from Projects. Drawings and review history need their own copies.
